- District wells
- Chatfield water, treated by Centennial Water
Castle Pines North Metropolitan District serves the city west of I-25. From May to September it pumps its own wells in the Arapahoe, Denver and Lower Dawson aquifers and treats the water at its own plant. From October to April it draws renewable water stored in Chatfield Reservoir, 1,006 acre-feet of it, treated by Centennial Water and Sanitation District and piped in. Deep groundwater and treated reservoir water come from different places, and they need not leave the same residue on a glass.
The Canyons, east of I-25, is supplied by Parker Water and Sanitation District, and Castle Pines Village has its own district. Neither switches.
What it can do to a Cove
Cove’s troubleshooting for spots and white film names a change in water supply quality, such as more hardness or more particles, among the causes. Settings that suited one supply can fall short on the other.
- Softener models. These ship with the hardness setting at 0, which keeps the softener from working. Test the water with the supplied strip, set the dishwasher to match, keep the salt compartment filled, and test again after the next switch.
- Models without a softener. There is no hardness setting. Keep the rinse aid topped up: Cove lists going without it among the causes of spots.
- Either model. Use the right detergent in the right amount, and skip the low-temperature cycles, which Cove names as another cause.
If film persists after the settings are right, or the dishwasher stops draining, the Cove repair page covers what a visit looks at.
Questions about the water
Is the summer well water harder than the winter water?
The district does not publish a hardness figure for either supply, so we will not guess one. What is documented is that the source and the treatment change. The practical answer is to test: a strip in May and another in October tells you whether your own tap water moved enough to matter.
Does this affect my Sub-Zero ice maker too?
It can change how the ice looks or tastes, because the same water feeds it. If the ice maker still fills and harvests normally, the refrigerator is working. A fresh water filter can help with taste and odor, but a standard carbon filter does not soften water.
